Installing Effects in Paint.NET
I know what you're thinking... "Wow! Cool effects! But, how do I add them to my Paint.NET?"
Hey! No problem. Just follow these step-by-step instructions and we'll have you up and running in no time at all:
Step-by-Step
All of the effects available on my pages are available in DLL format--no unzipping required.
Before you begin, be sure to exit out of Paint.NET.
Once you have found an effect that you like on one of my pages, look for the "Effect DLL" section of that page. It will look something like this:
You can download the effect DLL here: CodeLab.dll (Alpha 2)
Just drop this DLL file in your \program files\Paint.NET\effects directory and you should be all set.
Step 1) Click the download link. In our example, click the "CodeLab.dll" link. Your browser (assuming you use IE7) will prompt you with something like this:
Click the "Save" button.
Step 2) In the "Save As..." box, change your directory to your Paint.NET effects directory. If your system is like mine, you should see it in C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects
When that is done, click the "Save" button. The file will then begin to download.
Step 3) When download is complete, click the "Open Folder" button:
Step 4) Find the file that you just downloaded. Right-click on that file and choose "Properties" from the menu that appears:
Step 5) In the "General" property page, look near the bottom for a "Unblock" button. If it is there, click it.
If there is no "Unblock" button, you can skip this step.
That's It!
Once you have followed these instructions, you can run Paint.NET and click the "Effects" menu. You should see your new effect in that menu.
